Ingredients
-
2 ½ cups all-purpose flour
-
1 packet (2 ¼ tsp) active dry yeast
-
1 cup warm milk (about 110°F / 43°C)
-
2 tablespoons sugar
-
1 teaspoon salt
-
3 tablespoons unsalted butter, melted
-
1 large egg
-
2 cups shredded mozzarella cheese (or your favorite melting cheese)
-
4 cloves garlic, minced
-
3 tablespoons fresh parsley, chopped (optional, for garnish)
-
2 tablespoons olive oil or melted butter for brushing
Instructions
-
In a small bowl, combine warm milk and sugar, sprinkle yeast on top, and let it sit 5–10 minutes until frothy.
-
In a large bowl, mix flour and salt. Add melted butter, egg, and yeast mixture. Stir until a sticky dough forms.
-
Knead dough on a floured surface for 8–10 minutes until smooth and elastic (or 5–6 minutes in a stand mixer).
-
Place dough in a greased bowl, cover, and let rise in a warm spot for 1–1.5 hours, until doubled in size.
-
In a small bowl, mix minced garlic with 2 tablespoons melted butter or olive oil. Set aside.
-
Punch down risen dough, divide into 12 portions, and roll each into a small rectangle. Spread garlic butter and sprinkle with shredded cheese.
-
Roll each rectangle into a log, seal edges, and place seam-side down in a greased 9×13-inch baking dish, leaving space between rolls.
-
Cover and let rise 30–40 minutes until puffy. Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C).
-
Brush tops with additional melted butter and bake 20–25 minutes until golden and bubbly.
-
Cool slightly, garnish with parsley, and serve warm.
Notes
-
Substitute half the flour with whole wheat for added fiber.
-
Use different cheeses for varied flavor, such as cheddar or provolone.
-
Rolls can be prepared to the second rise, refrigerated overnight, and baked the next day.
-
Freeze unbaked rolls after shaping for up to 2 months; thaw and rise before baking.
-
For a milder garlic flavor, roast garlic before mixing with butter.
