Description

Bright, zesty, and irresistibly sweet, these Glazed Citrus Sugar Cookies are perfect for any occasion—whether it’s a cozy afternoon tea, a festive holiday gathering, or a weekend treat. Soft, buttery cookies are enhanced with fresh orange and lemon zest, then finished with a tangy-sweet glaze for a beautiful, flavorful finish.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 ¾ cups all-purpose flour

  • 1 teaspoon baking soda

  • ½ teaspoon baking powder

  • ¼ teaspoon salt

  • 1 cup unsalted butter, softened

  • 1 ½ cups granulated sugar

  • 1 large egg

  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract

  • Zest of 1 orange

  • Zest of 1 lemon

  • 2 tablespoons fresh orange juice

  • 2 tablespoons fresh lemon juice

For the glaze:

  • 1 cup powdered sugar

  • 2 tablespoons orange juice

  • 1 tablespoon lemon juice

  • ½ teaspoon vanilla extract

Instructions

  • Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C) and line two baking sheets with parchment paper.

  • In a medium bowl, whisk together flour, baking soda, baking powder, and salt. Set aside.

  • In a large bowl, beat the butter and sugar until light and fluffy, about 3-4 minutes.

  • Beat in the egg, vanilla extract, orange zest, lemon zest, orange juice, and lemon juice until fully combined.

  • Gradually mix in the dry ingredients until just incorporated.

  • Scoop dough into 1-inch balls and place 2 inches apart on baking sheets. Flatten slightly with the bottom of a glass.

  • Bake 10-12 minutes, until edges are lightly golden but centers remain soft.

  • Cool cookies on the baking sheet for 5 minutes, then transfer to a wire rack to cool completely.

  • Whisk together powdered sugar, orange juice, lemon juice, and vanilla for the glaze. Adjust consistency as needed.

  • Drizzle or spread glaze over cooled cookies and let set at least 30 minutes before serving.

Notes

Use room temperature butter for best results. For thicker cookies, chill dough for 30 minutes before baking. Store glazed cookies in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 5 days, or freeze unglazed cookies for longer storage.
