Description

A comforting, oven-baked casserole made with seasoned ground beef, tender rice, and a creamy blend of cheeses, perfect for family dinners.


Ingredients

  • 1 pound (450 g) ground beef

  • 1 cup (200 g) uncooked long-grain white rice

  • 2 cups (480 ml) beef broth

  • 1 medium onion, finely chopped (about 1 cup / 150 g)

  • 2 cloves garlic, minced

  • 1 cup (240 ml) whole milk

  • 1 cup (240 g) sour cream

  • 2 cups (200 g) shredded cheddar cheese

  • 1 cup (100 g) shredded mozzarella cheese

  • 1 tablespoon olive oil

  • 1 teaspoon salt

  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper

  • 1 teaspoon paprika

  • 1/2 teaspoon dried thyme

  • 2 tablespoons chopped fresh parsley (optional)


Instructions

  • Cook the rice with beef broth according to package instructions until tender. Set aside.

  • Heat olive oil in a skillet over medium heat. Sauté onion until softened, add garlic, then brown the ground beef.

  • Season the beef with salt, pepper, paprika, and thyme.

  • Stir in milk and sour cream until creamy and well combined.

  • Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C) and grease a 9×13-inch baking dish.

  • Spread rice evenly in the dish, top with beef mixture, then sprinkle with cheeses.

  • Bake uncovered for 25–30 minutes until bubbly and golden.

  • Rest for 5 minutes before serving and garnish if desired.

Notes

This casserole can be assembled ahead of time and baked later. For added creaminess, a small splash of milk can be added before reheating leftovers.
