Ingredients
-
1 pound ground beef (80/20 for best flavor)
-
1 medium onion, thinly sliced
-
1 medium green bell pepper, thinly sliced
-
1 teaspoon garlic powder
-
1 teaspoon onion powder
-
1/2 teaspoon smoked paprika
-
1/2 teaspoon black pepper
-
1/2 teaspoon salt, or to taste
-
1/4 teaspoon crushed red pepper flakes (optional)
-
4 hoagie rolls, split
-
8 slices provolone cheese (or your preferred melty cheese)
-
2 tablespoons olive oil or butter for sautéing
-
Optional toppings: sautéed mushrooms, banana peppers, fresh parsley
Instructions
-
Heat 1 tablespoon of olive oil in a large skillet over medium heat. Add onions and bell peppers and sauté for 5–7 minutes until softened and slightly caramelized. Remove from the skillet and set aside.
-
Add the remaining olive oil to the skillet if needed. Add the ground beef and season with garlic powder, onion powder, smoked paprika, salt, black pepper, and red pepper flakes if using. Cook for 6–8 minutes, breaking apart the meat until fully browned. Drain excess fat if necessary.
-
Return the sautéed vegetables to the skillet with the beef. Stir to combine and cook over low heat for 2–3 minutes.
-
Reduce heat to low and layer the provolone slices over the beef and vegetables. Cover with a lid for 1–2 minutes to melt the cheese.
-
Lightly toast the hoagie rolls in a skillet or oven for 1–2 minutes.
-
Scoop the beef, vegetable, and melted cheese mixture onto the toasted rolls. Add optional toppings as desired.
-
Serve immediately while hot and cheesy.
