Description
A creamy, tangy, and flavorful chicken dish perfect for busy weeknights or casual dinners. This French-inspired recipe combines tender chicken with a rich mustard sauce and aromatic herbs, creating a meal that’s both elegant and easy to prepare.
Ingredients
-
4 boneless, skinless chicken breasts (or thighs)
-
2 tablespoons olive oil
-
1 small onion, finely chopped
-
3 cloves garlic, minced
-
1/2 cup chicken broth
-
1/2 cup heavy cream
-
3 tablespoons Dijon mustard
-
1 teaspoon whole-grain mustard (optional)
-
1 teaspoon fresh thyme leaves (or 1/2 teaspoon dried thyme)
-
Salt and black pepper to taste
-
Fresh parsley, chopped (for garnish)
Instructions
-
Pat the chicken dry and season both sides with salt and black pepper.
-
Heat olive oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat. Add chicken and cook 5–6 minutes per side until golden brown and cooked through. Remove chicken and set aside.
-
Reduce heat to medium. Add chopped onion and cook 3–4 minutes until softened. Add garlic and cook 30 seconds until fragrant.
-
Pour in chicken broth, scraping up any browned bits. Simmer 2–3 minutes.
-
Stir in Dijon mustard, whole-grain mustard (if using), and thyme. Add heavy cream and mix until sauce thickens slightly.
-
Return chicken to the skillet, spooning sauce over each piece. Simmer 2–3 minutes to heat through and coat chicken.
-
Garnish with fresh parsley before serving.
Notes
-
Chicken thighs can be used for a juicier alternative; adjust cooking time as needed.
-
For a dairy-free version, substitute heavy cream with coconut cream or a dairy-free cream alternative.
-
To thicken the sauce, simmer longer or add a cornstarch slurry (1 teaspoon cornstarch + 1 tablespoon water).
-
Serve with mashed potatoes, rice, or roasted vegetables for a complete meal.
